Behind the scenes with Garmin in Tuscany


Garmin - EDGE EXPLORE 2 Launch Video


In the spring of 2022, Adrift Visuals had the pleasure of embarking on a week-long shoot with Garmin in the heart of Tuscany to create a stunning campaign for their new cycling product, the Edge Explore 2. The shoot saw a team of six crew members from the UK, including the renowned photographer Tom Kahler and videographer Dom Hinde, travel to the beautiful town of Volterra to capture some breathtaking content.


Volterra, a charming hilltop town located in the heart of Tuscany, provided the perfect backdrop for the campaign. Known for its picturesque landscapes and rich history, Tuscany is a popular destination for photographers and filmmakers. Springtime in Tuscany is particularly enchanting, with lush greenery, blooming flowers, and warm, sunny weather. Adrift Visuals took full advantage of the stunning scenery and lighting conditions to capture some truly breathtaking imagery.

Alice from the Adrift team was the director for the shoot, while Sam was the lead photographer for the social assets.






Garmin is a multinational technology company that specialises in GPS technology for aviation, marine, outdoor, and sports activities. The Edge Explore 2 is one of their latest products, designed to help cyclists navigate and explore new routes while staying connected with their smartphone. The device provides turn-by-turn directions, safety features, and advanced tracking capabilities for a seamless and safe cycling experience.


Both Alice and Sam served as producers for the shoot, overseeing all aspects of the production and ensuring everything ran smoothly. The team also had the pleasure of working with two local models from the Isle of Wight, which made the shoot all the more enjoyable and effortless.


Several members of the Garmin team from the UK and US also came to the shoot.Their presence was invaluable in ensuring the campaign aligned with Garmin's vision for the Edge Explore 2 and that all features and benefits of the device were highlighted in the visuals.



After flying into Pisa, the team hired cars from the airport and drove to Volterra, where they were based for the week. The town provided the perfect base for exploring the surrounding areas, and the team was able to capture some stunning shots of the countryside, the winding roads, and the quaint towns and villages.






The shoot was a success, with Adrift Visuals producing a wide range of stunning imagery, including both video and stills. The team captured everything from wide-angle shots of the countryside to detailed close-ups of the Edge Explore 2 in action. The footage was later edited in-house by Garmin to create a cohesive and visually stunning campaign. In conclusion, the week-long shoot in Tuscany with Garmin was a fantastic experience for the Adrift team.


Working with renowned photographers and videographers, collaborating with local models, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Volterra made the shoot a memorable and enjoyable experience. The Edge Explore 2 is a fantastic product, and Adrift Visuals was thrilled to be a part of its launch campaign.
